The Academic Workshop ''Regional Security System in the Middle East: And the Impossible is Possible?''

On October 16, 2019 the CSDS, Department of Israel Studies of Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Science, and Center for Islamic and Arabic Studies, IOS RAS organized the Academic Workshop ''Regional Security System in the Middle East: And the Impossible is Possible?''. The event was attended by more than 40 academic scientists, diplomats and experts representing leading research think tanks in Russia: Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences, Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Primakov Institute of World Economy and International Relations, Higher School of Economics, MGIMO of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, and many others.

The CSDS Director Vladimir Bartenev participated at ISPI - Farnesina - RIAC International Seminar "From Battlefields to Negotiation Tables: What Role for International Actors in the MENA Crises?"

September 10, 2019, the CSDS Director Vladimir Bartenev made a presentation ''The US Disengagement from the MENA Region: Myths and Reality'' at the international seminar ''From Battlefields to Negotiation Tables: What Role for International Actors in the MENA Crises?" organized by Russian International Affairs CouncilItalian Institute for International Political Studies and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation as one of the 'Toward MED -Regional Meetings' ahead of the 5th Edition of the Mediterranean Dialogues which will be held in Rome on December 5-7, 2019. The aim of the seminar was the exchange of views and ideas between experts on the role and influence of regional and international actors in major crises affecting the Middle East and North Africa.

Reconstruction of Iraq: underlying logic and role of foreign actors

On June 26, 2018 the CSDS in cooperation with the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies (CAIS) of the Institute of Oriental Studies RAS held a workshop panel “Reconstruction of Iraq: underlying logic and role of foreign actors” as part of realization of the project “Dilemmas of Strengthening State Resilience in the Middle East and North Africa in the Context of New Threats to Peace, Security, Global and Regional Stability” supported with a grant from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (project №17-37-01018).

International Academic Conference ‘Empowering Sustainability in a Fragile World’

On December 14-15, 2017 the international research consortium led by the Lomonosov Moscow State University (School of World Politics - Center for Security and Development Studies), University of California (Irvine) and Institute for Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, held an international academic conference' Empowering Sustainability in a Fragile World' in partnership with the Russian International Affairs Council and with financial support from the Russian Science Foundation (project №15-18-30066).

Dilemmas of Strengthening State Resilience in the Middle East and North Africa before the Arab Spring

The CSDS in cooperation with the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies (CAIS) of the Institute of Oriental Studies RAS held a round table discussion as part of realization of the projec“Dilemmas of Strengthening State Resilience in the Middle East and North Africa in the Context of New Threats to Peace, Security, Global and Regional Stability” supported with a grant from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (project №17-37-01018).
