On October 31, 2018 the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Center for Security and Development Studies at the School of World Politics of the Lomonosov Moscow State University hosted an international academic conference ‘Peace & State — Building the Future of the Middle East’ commemorating the 200th anniversary of IOS RAS establishment.

On October 31, 2018 the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences will host an international academic conference ‘Peace & State Building: Future of the Middle East’ commemorating the 200th anniversary of its establishment.

On March 27, 2018 the CSDS Director Vladimir Bartenev participated in the meeting of Russian experts with the Qatari delegation, which escorted Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani during his working visit in Russia. Management of the Russian International Affairs Council and research associates of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences have also participated in the event. The Qatari delegation included Deputy Minister for Education, representatives of the Qatari University, department officers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Qatar in Moscow.

The CSDS held a workshop panel “Fragile states” in a Contemporary Architecture of the International Development Assistance”. The CSDS experts presented their achievements of the current year in the course of realization of the project “Evolution of Leading International Actors' Approaches to Security-Development Nexus in the Context of Transformation of Global System: Analysis and Prognosis” supported with a grant from the Russian Scientific Foundation (project №15-18-30066).

On December 14-15, 2017 the international research consortium led by the Lomonosov Moscow State University (School of World Politics - Center for Security and Development Studies), University of California (Irvine) and Institute for Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, held an international academic conference' Empowering Sustainability in a Fragile World' in partnership with the Russian International Affairs Council and with financial support from the Russian Science Foundation (project №15-18-30066).

On December 14-15, 2017 the international research consortium led by the Lomonosov Moscow State University (School of World Politics - Center for Security and Development Studies), University of California (Irvine) and Institute for Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, held an international academic conference' Empowering Sustainability in a Fragile World' in partnership with the Russian International Affairs Council and with financial support from the Russian Science Foundation (project №15-18-30066).

On December 11-16, 2017 the CSDS in cooperation with the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Center for Arab and Islamic Studies) with the financial support from the Russian Science Foundation (RSF) (project №15-18-30066) organized the International School of Young Scholars titled “Ensuring Peaceful and Sustainable Development in the Context of Political Transformation: Scenarios for the Middle East”.

The CSDS in cooperation with the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies (CAIS) of the Institute of Oriental Studies RAS held a round table discussion as part of realization of the project “Dilemmas of Strengthening State Resilience in the Middle East and North Africa in the Context of New Threats to Peace, Security, Global and Regional Stability” supported with a grant from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (project №17-37-01018).

November 1 2017 the School of World Politics and Princeton University held a round table discussion titled ‘The US-Russian relations in the Middle East: challenges and prospects’ with a participation of a prominent American diplomat and an expert Daniel Kurtzer.

The CSDS Research Fellows Olga Kulkova and Luiza Khlebnikova participated the 14th International African Studies Conference ''Africa and Africans in National, Regional and Global Dimensions'' that was held by Institute for African Studies, Russian Academy of Science.
